Why the Manumits suspect him in the first place
Crake sends a party of five scouts into Svartrau and only one comes back. That survivor is the character players are asking about, and the rebels treat his story as the obvious weak point. By the time Coen is voted into the cell beneath the weaver’s shop, Crake is already walking him past the man as a prisoner they have been working over for lying about the missing scouts. Nothing in that scene establishes guilt; it establishes that the Manumits have one survivor, no bodies and no explanation.
The spelling changes depending on which guide you read. Walkthroughs render the name as Layos, Loyas and Loyos, and Rebel Wolves has published nothing that settles it. That inconsistency is worth knowing because searching one spelling can hide answers written under another, but it does not affect the verdict below. All three spellings refer to the same surviving scout in the same questline.
Where the evidence that clears him is found
The proof is not in the interrogation and not in dialogue. It is loot, and it is easy to walk past. Where Loyalty Lies ends with Brencis’s soldiers ambushing Coen outside the Middens warehouse where the other four scouts are already dead. Search their bodies after that fight and one of them carries a letter showing that the scout who slipped away did not betray the Manumits. He was simply careless enough to lead the soldiers straight to the lookout the scouts were using.
Because the fight ends the quest and What Hunts the Night starts immediately, it is possible to accept the next objective and travel back to Crake without ever reading the letter. The verdict is the same either way, but the conversation reads very differently when you are answering from evidence instead of from a guess.
- Follow the blood trail from the pink-facade house in Neustadt to the Middens warehouse.
- Drop through the roof, inspect the dead scouts and leave through the front door.
- Talk to the dying scout Boyan, then survive the ambush that follows.
- Loot the fallen soldiers before fast travelling; the letter is on one of their bodies.
What to tell Crake in What Hunts the Night
The question arrives during the first objective of What Hunts the Night, which asks only that you report back to Crake at the hideout. Once you describe what happened to the scouts, he raises the survivor and waits for your read on him. This is where the search question is usually asked, and it is the one moment in the chain where the player states a verdict out loud.
PowerPyx’s launch-build walkthrough is explicit that any response can be chosen here and that it does not have a major effect on later interactions. Treat that as a report on the dialogue outcomes that walkthrough tested, not as a guarantee that no line of later dialogue ever acknowledges the answer. If you want the reply that matches the evidence rather than the reply that is safest, defend him.

What this verdict does not decide
This is a character judgement inside one questline, not a branch on the Court infamy track and not a morality meter. Dawnwalker keeps quest choices, faction standing and infamy separate, and nothing in these walkthroughs ties your answer here to an ending, a reward or an infamy rank. If you are trying to plan a run around decisions that measurably change the game, the wider choices guide is the better starting point.
It also does not resolve what killed the scouts. Boyan names something fast and winged called Teotim before he dies, and that thread, not the survivor, is what What Hunts the Night actually investigates once the report to Crake is done.
