Start the quest and secure the hilt

The shards are only part of the weapon. Complete A Monk and a Saint in Svartrau to obtain the Broken Sword of St. Mihai, the hilt item required for reforging. PC Gamer reports that reading the note in St. Mihai’s coffin after the encounter starts Forge It Anew, so inspect the coffin before leaving rather than relying on a shard found while exploring to explain the whole objective.

You can discover shard sites before finishing the Svartrau quest, but the Uriashi smith needs the broken sword and all three fragments. Treat the route as two checklists—one hilt and three shards—so arriving with three glowing quest items does not look like a bug when the reforging dialogue is still unavailable.

Find all three Silver Sword Shards

The first two nests contain crude maps that add useful markers for the remaining fragments. The Maragir route is the gentlest starting point: travel northeast of the Upper Maragir Wealds shrine, cross the river and follow the cave trail. Clear the Kobolds and take the shard from the broken cross.

The Rockfalls fragment is inside a cave southwest of the Giant’s Pawns shrine, reachable from the eastern forest. Look for a white X over the entrance and defeat the poison-inflicting Munch-Munch before looting the rear nest. For the last fragment, search the ransacked den southeast of Crossroads Inn in south St. Tyna’s Grove; the trail redirects you west to a Xanthe soldier camp, where the shard is in the main tent.

Reforge and temper St. Mihai’s sword

With the Broken Sword and all three shards collected, travel to the Uriashi Hermitage in northwest Briar Sloughs. The hornless Uriashi hermit stands near the large stone circle and can reforge the pieces when Coen makes clear that the blade will be used against Brencis. This produces the Restored Sword of St. Mihai, but the quest is not finished yet.

Follow the new objective farther northwest into the ancient ruins. Clear the combat encounters and quench the restored blade in the red magical focus. The weapon then becomes the legendary Imbued Sword of St. Mihai. PC Gamer notes that its weapon art changes between day and night, so test both versions before deciding how it fits a Swordmastery route.
